Tour Itinerary P2-06 The Great Wall of Simatai Highlights: If your Great Wall-climbing pedigree consists of leisure-walks up and down Badaling, then be forewarned - Simatai is no cakewalk. The 2 hour or so walk from the first to the twelth watchtower is the warm-up, from 12th to 13th (with broken down stairs at a steep angle) the rehearsal, the real nightmare (or heavenly bliss if you are a hiking maniac) begins when we reach the 100 meter or so section between the 13th and 14th watchtower where the stairs run up at incline of 80 degrees (almost perpendicular to the ground) and where it is absolutely to go on all fours as there is no steel railings on the sides of the wall to help you along. The stairs are aptly named "Stairway to Heaven" as the view on top at the 16th and highest tower is truly breathtaking. - Roundtrip transportation provided.
